The designer of this fan-made solo variant explains it as follows:

"I love the simplicity of the solo mode included out of the box but there are a few aspects that I feel could be improved. For me the most obvious room for improvement is the fixed, diminishing length of the game rounds that limit the way the solo player must approach the game (when compared to the multi-player experience). On the other hand, I also feel that a full blown automa is overkill because the degree of interaction in the multi-player game is not sufficient to warrant the added overhead that it would entail.

This is a simple solo mode that still provides a target number of rounds in order to try and win by but includes all of what I believe are the important interactions in the multi-player game. Furthermore, no additional components are required beyond what is included in the box."
