Description
The Coimbra solo mode explained in this rulebook utilizes an automa player named “Coimbot”.
Coimbot uses two custom selection boards (one for Phase B and one for Phase C) and the unused dice from a two-player setup. These boards and dice are used to drive all selections for Coimbot during the game.
In designing this automa the focus was on:
Streamlining the automa – the decision logic for Coimbra is dice driven with simple to determine selection conditions and tie breakers. All information required for Coimbot’s decisions is easy to determine from a quick glance at the board. Once familiar with the system a game can be run in about ½ hour (depending on your own AP of course!)
Developing a scoring progression that mimics a human player – in Coimbra players work to stack card and monastery bonuses optimally to maximize per/turn VP generation. Since the Coimbot lacks the ability to optimize at this level it builds a stacking engine using a slightly different mechanic designed to simulate this progression in-game.
